Sai Ying Pun’s edgy delights

In Chinese (Cantonese to be specific) Sai Ying Pun means west camp.  Sai Ying Pun is located on the western side of Hong Kong Island, still visible to neighbouring Kowloon.

It’s built on the steep sloping Victoria Peak, shy of Kennedy town.  The area has in 2015 been opened up by MTR driving an influx of interest from locals and expatriates alike, flocking for the temporary rental reprieve and the advantage of close proximity to Central.

Queen’s Road has always meandered through Sai Ying Pun, but the introduction of MTR (Hong Kong’s elite mass rapid train system) has brought a degree of gentrification and along with it a plethora of new dining experiences.  Bars, delis and restaurant’s attracted by SYP’s lower rents. read more

About the PSYCHO TOUR, Margaret Cho adds, “I’m so thrilled to announce that I will be back out on the road with an amazing new show! This show is about insanity, and about the anger I feel about everything happening in the world right now, from police brutality to racism to the rising tide of violence against women. The record was independently released to rave reviews, with Rolling Stone magazine calling it “one of the all-time great breakup albums, not to mention one of the era’s surprise success stories.” The follow-up album ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’ showcased a different musical direction, as a collaborative effort featuring various other musicians. ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’ was named Best Alternative Music Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards, with the band also winning the Best New Act award. read more

Tame Impala

YourMum is bowled over with excitement to announce Australian psych rock champions Tame Impala will make their Hong Kong debut with us on April 19th at Macpherson Stadium.

Tame Impala’s first release, a self-titled EP, debuted in 2008, followed by their first album Innerspeaker in 2010.  The second, the sublimely successful long-player Lonerism was released in 2012 with song writing as joyously screwy as ever.  Songs which swerve when you expect them to duck, and turn in on themselves when you expect them to straighten out, there are so many melodic curveballs, it’s marvellously dizzying.  Lonerism received worldwide praise and endorsements from fellow artists and A-listers, and garnered all-star ratings from industry and tastemakers, including both the NME and Triple J’s #1 Album of the Year. read more
