YourMum presents: Yaeji, live in HK

For fans of: Mall Grab, Kaytranada, SOPHIE, Tokimonsta

YourMum is delighted to announce that NY-based singer, producer and DJ – Yaeji – will make her Hong Kong debut with us at TTN on July 23. Yaeji’s music is an invitation into an intimate, healing, world exploring cultural identity and self-reflection through dreamlike house productions that morph from whispery confessionals to dancefloor burners, and makes quite simply for a party unlike no other.

Born in Queens, NY to South Korean parents, Yaeji repatriated to Seoul shortly after, where she spent her formative years attending school, learning Korean and English side-by-side. Yaeji returned to America to study at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and made a home for herself at the college radio station, where she was introduced to the local underground electronic music community and seminal club nights like Hot Mass, all formative experiences leading to her fascination with dance music production. With her fully-fledged music obsession in tow, Yaeji moved back to her birth city after graduation and began cultivating her own community of artists and DJs in Brooklyn’s local dance scene while recording music of her own. Yaeji’s first musical offering, her self-titled Yaeji EP, found the producer merging her club influences with songwriting and hazy raps flitting between Korean and English. Her follow up EP2, featuring singles “Drink I’m Sippin On” and “Raingurl” along with 2018’s “One More” have accelerated Yaeji’s presence in the global spectrum as a singular and leading voice in dance, hip-hop and avant-pop music. read more

YourMum presents: MNDSGN, live in Hong Kong

YourMum is delighted to announce that Mndsgn (pronounced Mind Design) will make his local Hong Kong debut on March 21 at Eaton Hong Kong.

Born Ringgo Ancheta, the American hip hop producer of Philippino descent grew up in south New Jersey, raised with Gospel music at church, B-Boy culture, and his older sisters’ favorite 90s R&B artists. Experimenting with beatmaking in his teen years, he befriended fellow Stones Throw labelmate Knxwledge and the two formed the influential Klipmode collective.  Mndsgn’s music flourished when he moved to Los Angeles, quickly catching the attention of Low End Theory as well as Stones Throw, who released ‘Yawn Zen’ in 2014 – a LP of complex, introspective beat creations punctuated by intriguing vocal cuts. Mndsgn then toured the globe, cofound Akashik Records & Tapes, and provided the beat for “Sweeny Song”, a high-profile collaboration with underground rap superstar Danny Brown.  Mndsgn followed up with his sophomore LP ‘Body Wash’ in 2016 which was proclaimed one of the best electronic albums of the year by Pitchfork media. YourMum and Collective Minds Present: Masego

Known for the extraordinary improvisational skills jazz maestros are famed for, he’s displayed this very trait to great lengths. From creating fresh, new versions of each song he performs live in concert to the off-the-top-of-their-heads internet-breaking hit “Tadow” (over 93 million views and counting) with his close collaborator FKJ, no two Masego shows are the same.

The pioneer of the self-coined genre “Trap House Jazz”, it’s now evolved into a posse of musicians about 100 deep, their bio aptly stating “A lotta talented cats making music where ignorance meets elegance” which just about sums it up the best. He has been widely noted for being equally versatile on multiple instruments (the piano, saxophone, and drums to name a few) and his premier vocal runs and bars allow him to stand on a pedestal against his contemporaries. read more

YourMum presents: Teenage Fanclub

YourMum is exploding with joy to announce that indie legends, Teenage Fanclub, will be making their long overdue live debut in Hong Kong on Feb 1 at The Vine.

From their formation in the late 80’s through their eleven studio LPs and two compilations, Teenage Fanclub have gone from scrappy indie underdogs, through band-most-likely-to, eventually arriving at the status they’ve held ever since: one of Britain’s most beloved cult bands. Not liked, or admired, or respected: beloved.

One of the marquee Creation Records artists of their time, their label mate Liam Gallagher famously called them the “Second best band in the world” (after Oasis of course).  It was their third LP and first on Creation – 1991’s ‘Bandwagonesque’, which shot the group to a truly global audience.  Melding vocal harmonies with walls of guitar, they found their voice combining the songwriting quality of classic 60s and 70s rock and pop with the devil-may-care charm of the C86 Scottish indie scene they sprang from.  Critically acclaimed, ‘Bandwagonesque’ beat Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ to be named Spin magazine’s No 1 album of 1991 (also beating out U2, R.E.M. and My Bloody Valentine in the process). read more
